Artists:
Among the artists for this year’s exhibit:
Rachel Borchard, B.F.A. student of Orange, who submitted “Quiet,” a drawing/painting done on scratch board: “Sometimes it’s easy to forget that one’s mental health is as important as one’s physical health. Around the time I worked on this piece, I was feeling rather depressed, and used this as part of my inspiration.”
James Hollifield, a senior art major from Riverside, submitted a drawing titled “Contemplation.” “Contemplation, inspired through the thoughts of growth, the thoughts of change. A tranquil moment that one can gather thoughts of the future and prepare for the adventures life set you upon. Responsibilities are gained, challenges are present and life can be frightening to many. Contemplation is a message, to have time for one’s self. Think before you act, and embrace life for what it is.”
Brent Foster, associate professor of communications and interim director of Freshman Programs, who writes about his photo “Hands”: “Sometimes we need a reminder that it’s not that bad. This can be a hard pill to swallow, most don’t like to hear, ‘it could be worse.’ My pictures are celebrations of life lived. I hope others might see these pictures and ponder. Look into the human spirit. Live in these moments and feel the story.”
Additional:
The first Art for Health exhibit was mounted in 2007-08 as part of the university’s 50th anniversary and was designed to increase awareness of the health center’s services and the talents of campus members.
