UPDATE: CSUF student Vineet Shah won the “Best Use of Analytics and Visualization Tools” award during the Teradata University Network Business Analytics Competition.
Business administration major Vineet Shah, mentored by Rahul Bhaskar, professor of information systems and decision sciences, and Yuna Kim, assistant professor of marketing, is a finalist in the Teradata University Business Analytics Competition Oct. 18-19 in Anaheim.
Shah will be presenting sentiment analysis he conducted as part of a study by Kim and Bhaskar that explores how consumer sentiments on social media, i.e. Twitter, affected stock prices and sales of newly launched products, specifically, the 2013 roll out of Sony PlayStation 4 and the Microsoft Xbox One.
Shah is the only finalist from California taking part in the competition, which includes competitors not only from the United States but also from Canada, Australia and Thailand. The analytics competition finalists will present research or application cases and will be judged on originality of idea, quality of argumentation and writing, and overall contribution to new knowledge.
