Layla Bahar Al-Aloom, a lecturer in modern languages and literatures, has been honored with the 2024 California Language Teachers’ Association Outstanding Teacher Leader Award for her contributions to teaching Arabic and English as a second language. Bahar Al-Aloom was formally recognized at the CLTA awards brunch on March 10.
“I am honored to receive the Outstanding Teacher Leader Award. I deeply appreciate the efforts and contributions of everyone involved. To everyone who has supported, guided and contributed to this journey, your influence and encouragement have been invaluable,” said Bahar Al-Aloom.
Bahar Al-Aloom is a trained leader and consultant with extensive experience in curriculum design, development, review, higher education instruction, teacher training, coaching and program coordination. She is known for her modernized teaching styles and strategies for teaching the Arabic language, which enable her students to achieve successful goals by implementing appropriate standards and analyzing emerging best practices. Bahar Al-Aloom is a creative problem-solver who excels in guiding students and teachers through lessons and training, identifying goals, and monitoring potential outcomes. She is also a qualified ESL specialist, which is reflected in her students’ rapid learning of the language and in her development and instruction of students engaging in the Arabic culture and using the language in real-world applications.
CLTA’s Outstanding Teacher Leader Award is reserved for world languages and culture educators who display outstanding teaching qualities. CLTA members and affiliates may nominate a colleague who is a CLTA member for the Outstanding Teacher Leader Award.
