Daily Titan Wins National Honors in Advertising, News

In March, the Daily Titan won six Best of Show awards at the Associated Collegiate Press Spring National College Media Conference held in San Diego, including the following staff awards:

  • First place for advertising media kit
  • Fifth place for website
  • Fifth place for digital newsletter

In addition, three students won individual awards:

  • Second place: Ruka Yuga, Advertisement: Print, Online, Video or Audio, for “Teaching is a chance to change the world, CSUF Department of Secondary Education”
  • Third place: Paige Strickland, Reporting: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, for “CSUF Drag Show winner forges their own runway”
  • Eighth place: Jordan Rivera, Photojournalism: Sports Photo, for “Men’s soccer clinches No. 1 seed in Big West playoffs”

Separate from the ACP Best of Show awards, students earned honors at the California College Media Association awards competition, held in conjunction with the ACP conference:

  • Second place: Ruka Yaga, Best Print Advertisement, for “Teaching is a chance to change the world, CSUF Department of Secondary Education”
  • Second place: Emily Melgar, Gottie Chavez, Mahealani Wu, Gigi Gradillas and Paige Strickland, Best Social Justice Coverage, for “Cal State Fullerton still struggles to hire diverse faculty (Melgar)”; “Palestinian roots motivate CSUF student body president (Chavez)”; “CSUF to take repatriation more seriously under CSU guidance (Wu and Gradillas)”; “ASI panel boosts queer visibility at CSUF (Wu)”; “CSUF Drag Show winner forges their own runway (Strickland)”
