The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Center, located in Pollak Library, Room 203, strives to increase faculty-led research, scholarly and creative work on campus. Through UROC programs, undergraduate and graduate-level students receive monetary and professional support. These immersive experiences enhance academic and professional skills and prepare students to apply their knowledge and contribute to their fields of study. By participating in UROC programs, students gain unparalleled opportunities for growth, collaboration and innovation, positioning themselves at the forefront of academic and creative excellence.

This summer, UROC has more than 135 students and 110 faculty members participating in its Summer Undergraduate Research Academy program and its Engaging Graduate Students in Research, Creative and Scholarly Activities program.

The holistic approach of these programs ensures that students and faculty benefit from comprehensive support and recognition, fostering a robust academic community. Both programs culminate in a Summer Showcase conference, where students present their innovative projects alongside their peers. The 2024 conference will take place in the Titan Student Union Portola Pavilion on Aug. 9 from 1:30-4 p.m.

The Summer Undergraduate Research Academy targets and facilitates undergraduate mentorship. It stands as a testament to the invaluable role of undergraduate involvement in research and creative endeavors under the guidance of faculty experts across diverse disciplines. Emphasizing the significance of faculty advising and active student participation, SUReA offers more than just funding. It equips students with essential communication and presentation skills through dedicated workshops.

The Engaging Graduate Students in Research, Scholarly and Creative Activities program offers valuable support to CSUF graduate students, enabling them to participate in faculty-led scholarly or creative projects during the summer and fall semesters. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Investing Now to Expand Faculty Research Through Capacity Building project, EG-RSCA allows students to collaborate with CSUF faculty on original research, scholarship and creative endeavors. In addition to fostering faculty guidance and student engagement, the program offers workshops to enhance students’ scholarly and creative presentation skills.
