Many people set New Year’s resolutions to be active but struggle to maintain that behavior. Gyms that are crowded at the beginning of the year slowly decline in numbers. Staying active is hard. To help campus community members succeed in their physical activity journeys, Cal State Fullerton’s Employee Wellness Program will offer a new group physical activity program starting in March called F.I.T. Together, which stands for Find Inspiration and Thrive Together.
As part of this program, the group will set goals and create plans to encourage people to be active on their own. This program will include group discussions as well as workouts and will run on select Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Employee Wellness Program is operated by the Department of Kinesiology. It is a place where faculty and staff can be active, whether that means lifting weights, using treadmills or elliptical machines, or relaxing through yoga in an environment exclusively for faculty and staff. At the same time, kinesiology students gain hands-on experience working in a physical activity setting, learning how to provide exercise programming and developing their interpersonal skills. This program provides students with opportunities to put their classroom learning into practice.
Faculty and staff benefits include workout programs that outline the exercises for the day and fitness classes such as Mastery Monday, during which the focus is on learning and mastering exercises. The program also offers Thriving Thursday, which is a targeted weight training and interval training class.
Employee Wellness Programs include:
- Open gym: Faculty and staff perform their own strength and aerobic routines under the guidance and support of kinesiology graduate and undergraduate students or participate in one of the student-led group workouts. Open gym is available Monday through Friday from 11:45 a.m.-1:45 p.m. and Monday through Thursday from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
- Yoga class: To relax, faculty and staff can participate in one of three yoga classes taught by a certified yoga teacher. Yoga classes are in session Monday and Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. and Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
- F.I.T. Together: This is a new class for participants who would like help starting a physical activity journey. This class is available select Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon, starting in March.
