Associated Students Inc. invites the Cal State Fullerton campus community to join its annual Earth Week celebration from April 21-26, which will feature a documentary screening on fast fashion, a community clothing swap, park clean-ups, and engaging panels featuring professors and students from the region.
The campus event, organized by ASI’s Environmental Sustainability Commission and partners like the Fullerton Fashion Club, is designed to provide the community with accessible tools and knowledge for environmental action.
“Earth Week is a time to focus on environmental issues and celebrate the importance of protecting and preserving our spaces on campus and in our communities,” said Haneefah Syed, ASI’s chief campus relations officer. “For years, ASI has created initiatives aimed at raising awareness about sustainability, environmental conservation and highlighting global environmental challenges, such as pollution, deforestation and climate change.”
Highlights include the Fullerton Fashion Club and CSUF’s environmental studies program community clothing swap, a post-screening discussion moderated by Patrick Covert Ortiz, lecturer in American studies, and insights from Elijah Dalley, a featured designer at the London Design Festival.
ASI groups like the Association for Intercultural Awareness and the Environmental Sustainability Commission will also add to the celebration, with resources and events like Culture Couture, free food vouchers and plants from the Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Cal State Fullerton.
“Earth Week supports sustainability in fashion by encouraging students to rethink their consumption patterns, embrace reuse and explore upcycling,” Syed said.
Earth Week also offers a platform for clubs, professors and campus organizations to showcase their initiatives and contributions to creating a more sustainable Fullerton future.
“The speakers were chosen based on their professional background, passion for environmentalism and knowledge of sustainable practices,” Syed said. “We wanted students to be able to speak to community members within CSUF as familiar faces to show that a responsibility to the planet starts right here right now.”
