Among the new faculty at the Cal State Fullerton College of Business and Economics is Assistant Professor of Economics Anthony Bald. A 2025 alum of Harvard University with a Ph.D. in public policy, Bald also has Southern California roots with his undergraduate degree from Pomona College.

“After spending time in Los Angeles as an undergraduate, I am thrilled to return to Southern California,” said Bald. “CSUF provides a valuable combination of classroom-based and real-world learning opportunities. I am looking forward to integrating into the college as an applied microeconomist.”

Bald’s doctoral dissertation was a collection of essays in labor economics and child welfare, examining three topics: the rise of the nursing profession, state vaccination policy and childhood vaccination rates, and the economics of the foster care system that impacts 5% of American children. At Cal State Fullerton, Bald hopes to expand his research, exploring health outcomes for child welfare-involved populations and career choice within the medical field.

This fall, Bald will teach the Economics, Causality and Analytics course, which looks at the importance of understanding how causality is determined in the social sciences and how this is modeled. This course has interdisciplinary implications for economics and finance, public health, political science and more.

The Department of Economics at Cal State Fullerton supports undergraduate and graduate education programs that prepare students for careers in the academic, public and private sectors. Additionally, the department oversees two Centers of Excellence: the Center for Economic Education, which supports financial literacy for school children and recovering homeless populations; and the Woods Center for Economic Analysis and Forecasting, which provides twice-annual economic forecasts and regular updates on industry trends.
