With the semester just starting, many faculty and staff are taking steps to keep active with the support of kinesiology graduate and undergraduate students. In the Employee Wellness Program, faculty and staff can be seen running on treadmills, using ellipticals, lifting weights and stretching. Beyond the exercise, faculty and staff can be heard chatting and laughing with each other. Many of the faculty and staff who attend the program report feeling better after their workouts. Members love the support and encouragement they get from each other.
At the start of the semester, many new friends have joined the Employee Wellness Program and more are welcome to join. Kinesiology students are working hard to provide support and guidance to faculty and staff during their workouts. Each day, students create daily workouts as well as provide feedback and guidance on form.
The Employee Wellness Program offers a variety of programs. Its most popular program is Open Gym, during which faculty and staff can work out on their own or in small groups with the support of kinesiology students (Monday-Friday 11:45 a.m.-1:45 p.m. and Monday-Thursday 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Kinesiology and Health Science Building, Room 001). For those looking for relaxation, the Employee Wellness Program offers yoga both in person or on Zoom (Monday and Wednesday 12:05-12:55 p.m. in the Kinesiology and Health Science Building, Room 001).
The FIT Together Program is for individuals who want help in creating goals and learning how to become independent exercisers with the help of a small, supportive group. Two new groups meet Mondays at noon and Wednesdays at 5:15 p.m. The program has limited space remaining, so please email the Employee Wellness Program to sign up.
Finally, the Physical Activity Partners program is for those who want support in setting goals and accountability. In this program, faculty and staff will be matched with a kinesiology student who will help them create a plan to do on their own and check in periodically.
