Titan Outdoors Launches Free Classes to Teach Essential Outdoor Skills

Cal State Fullerton students and staff looking to learn essential outdoor skills can join Associated Students Inc.’s Titan Outdoors free educational classes on Oct. 3 and Oct. 9 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center.

Experienced Titan Outdoor leaders will teach both classes, covering topics like outdoor education on Oct. 3 and Backpacking 101 on Oct. 9, with equipment provided. With limited space in each class, students are encouraged to register on the Titan Recreation website.

Titan Outdoors provides the CSUF community with affordable outdoor adventures each semester, offering a chance to decompress outside of the city.

“To get outdoors is the best thing for a student. When you’re just kind of wiped out, how about recharging in nature?” said Angel Ramos, ASI outdoor adventures coordinator.

With over 100 attendees on trips last year, Titan Outdoors has seen success with trips to Yosemite, Pinnacles National Park and more. Now, educational classes are an additional feature.

“I want students to be immersed and have a good experience to start,” said Ramos. “Our initiative is to educate the public. If we can get the formula down, more people get involved.”

Backpacking 101 will inform attendees on trail safety, packing essentials and how to avoid over- or under-packing. Outdoor education will teach attendees how to plan an outdoor trip, using resources and gear readily available in the Titan Outdoors rental center.

Classes will also closely follow the “Leave No Trace” principles, which emphasize respecting outdoor spaces and leaving them as they were found.

“We want to give patrons the opportunity to learn about conservancy and if we do that, more of our national parks will continue to flourish,” said Ramos.

With an exciting fall 2025 season of Titan Outdoors well underway, the focus remains on education, which empowers the Titan community to make outdoor experiences more accessible, easy and fun.
