Dallas Stout, CSUF alum and lecturer in child and adolescent studies, donated his collection of historical Boy Scouts of America books to the Pollak Library’s Special Collections.
The collection of over 160 books includes early editions of the “Boy Scout Handbook,” “Patrol Leader Handbook” and “Scout Master Handbook.” It also includes nearly 40 early Boy Scouts of America storybooks from the 1920s.
“I collected these for many years as a youth and young adult, but I really haven’t done anything with them in the last 20 years. I am delighted to give them a permanent home at CSUF,” said Stout ’94 (B.S. human services).
Stout coordinated the donation with Lisa A. Mix, director of university archives and special collections. “There is already a student interested in using them to research the history of scouting,” said Mix.
Megan Graewingholt, liaison librarian for American studies added, “There is definitely a scholarly conversation around the Boy Scouts, particularly regarding gender roles, soldiering, and masculinity and manhood since the start of the 20th century.”
