Frank Mumford, former executive director and CEO of Cal State Fullerton’s Auxiliary Services Corp., died June 27.
Mumford served Auxiliary Services Corp. for 10 years, first as its CFO for four years before becoming its executive director and CEO.
Mumford earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois, and served four years in the United States Air Force.
He built a distinguished career in higher education finance and auxiliary services. He started his career at Eastern Illinois University and later served several institutions, including Presbyterian College, Kentucky Wesleyan College, University of Cincinnati, California Polytechnic State University and Cal State Fullerton. Across those roles, he was known for steady leadership, fiscal expertise and a deep commitment to service.
Mumford also contributed meaningfully to regional and national professional organizations, including the National Association of College and University Business Officers and the National Association of College Auxiliary Services. His leadership in NACAS, service to its Education Foundation and receipt of the Robert F. Newton Award for Distinguished Service reflected the respect he earned across the profession. After retiring in 2017, Mumford returned to his hometown of Casey, Illinois, where he continued supporting organizations in his local community.
Mumford’s personal interests were as varied as his background. He enjoyed photography, motorcycling, drag racing, boating, water skiing, good food and good friends. He also bowled recreationally and once sang in a barbershop quartet.
He is survived by his wife, Marci Shonk Mumford; son, Zane Mumford; daughter, Amanda Guimont; their mother, Marla Mumford; stepson, James Khun; and sisters, Cheryl Hickox and Mitzi Williams.
The West Coast celebration of life and memorial service is scheduled for Aug. 9 from 2-4 p.m. in San Diego.
