The 21st annual Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) “Hot Topics” Conference took place on Sept. 23 both virtually and in person at Cal State Fullerton.
Accounting and auditing professionals, policymakers, faculty and students gathered to discuss and inform the industry and academic world about the latest trends transforming the financial reporting and compliance fields.
Speakers included SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce and Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG) Chief Economist Diane Swonk, making the annual event noteworthy for companies. The event also provided networking opportunities that benefited students, faculty and professional attendees.
Vivek Mande, who is chair and professor of accounting and director of the Center for Corporate Reporting and Governance, discussed the importance of this event for professional relationship building.
Mande said: “This event connects many premier companies to the business school and allows them to form relationships.”
“This benefits our students, as these companies will look to recruit and hire CSUF graduates and bring them into their organizations. We are already seeing this in the Orange County accounting field, as many CSUF graduates work for Big Four, mid-tier, and local firms.”
