A Guide to CSUF’s Top-Ranked Information Technology Master’s Program

Share This:

The Cal State Fullerton fully online Master of Science in Information Technology has been consistently recognized as a top-ranked program according to U.S. News & World Report. Currently, it is listed as No. 3 in California and No. 29 nationally among online graduate programs.

Focused on working professionals, the virtual modality of the program supports flexibility and work-school balance, while supporting professional collaboration and networking through a cohort model. And best of all, it can all be completed in 20 months, so the timeline from first class to career promotion is shorter than most graduate programs.

Students have two concentrations to choose from: data science, which provides students with the knowledge, skills and experience in data processing and analytics within the business context, and IT management, which is focused on managing IT and cloud computing services and rapidly growing fields such as cybersecurity and cyberinsurance.

“Our M.S. in Information Technology is the ideal program for professionals who want to expand their knowledge in the growing fields of information technology and data science,” said Dan Soper, professor of information systems and decision sciences. “Our graduates are well prepared to communicate effectively and perform a wide range of job functions. The IT management concentration is particularly suited for those seeking to develop a balance of technical expertise and IT leadership abilities. I can’t think of a better program for affordability, on-time graduation, the best faculty and the best opportunities to grow in this sector.”

Among the many alumni who can testify to the versatility and benefit of this program is Cameron Bishop, a former professional baseball player who is now a senior technology risk and assurance professional with Big Four accounting firm EY in Irvine.

“From day one, I was exposed to IT infrastructure, code, analytics tools and various techniques, which I leverage today in my current position. If you want an in-depth understanding of the current IT trends and technologies that you can leverage in a new job, or to increase your knowledge around data science to break into the industry, I highly recommend this program as it covers a multitude of IT environment components,” said Bishop. “Prior to joining the program, I had very little knowledge and experience working in or with information systems. The professors broke down each technology to a sufficient level of precision for a novice like me to understand and master. The program at CSUF is a perfect launching pad for anyone who wants to change career paths to an IT-based role or to increase their current IT knowledge in their current position. Also, the program offers a flexible, remote learning schedule, which helped me navigate career and learning goals.”
