Assistant Professor of American Studies Kristin Denise Rowe (“Kris”) was recently featured in a three-part docuseries airing on Comcast Xfinity called The Black Beauty Effect. The series details the history and culture of the Black beauty industry. The three-part docuseries features episodes on make up, skincare, and hair. The docu-series features archival photos and footage, interviews with practitioners in varying beauty industries, artists and celebrities, and more. Kris was interviewed about her research on representations of Black women and beauty, as well as the contemporary natural hair movement.
The series is available to stream on Comcast’s on-demand Black Experience channel and by using the free XUMO streaming service. XUMO supported devices.
