Communications Faculty Member Earns Nomination for ‘Best Live Action Short Film’

Cal State Fullerton Associate Professor of Cinema and Television Arts Mun Chee Yong’s film “4 Sundays in September” has been nominated for Best Live Action Short Film at the 61st Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan.

The film tells the story of Mari, a migrant domestic worker seeking an abortion to avoid being deported. Set in Singapore, the cast mostly features migrant workers.

Yong made her feature directorial debut with the award-winning “Where the Road Meets the Sun,” an ensemble narrative set in Los Angeles that was produced by Big Machine Films and stars Will Yun Lee from “The Wolverine” and Eric Mabius from “Resident Evil.”

Several CSUF alumni worked on “4 Sundays in September,” including David Harding ’20 (B.A. cinema and television arts), assistant editor; Alans Torres ’19 (B.A. communications-advertising, cinema and television arts), graphic artist and animator; Lay Hak ’23 (B.A. cinema and television arts), dialogue editor; Christopher Cadiz ’23 (B.A. cinema and television arts), foley editor; and  Marco Cordova ’22 (B.A. cinema and television arts), sound effects editor.

The 61st annual Golden Horse Awards will be held in Taipei on Nov. 23. The Golden Horse Awards are among the most prestigious film awards in Asia, referred to widely referred to as “The Oscars of Asia” by BBC, CNN and the Los Angeles Times.
