The Cal State Fullerton Alumni Association hosted its annual board retreat Sept. 18-19, uniting volunteer leaders to celebrate progress, strengthen partnerships and set priorities for the year ahead.
The retreat opened with a welcome dinner that set a collaborative tone for the weekend. Board members heard campus updates from two new members of the university’s cabinet: Steven George, vice president for university advancement, Shondell Reed ’95 (B.A. communications-journalism), athletic director. Both leaders shared their vision for strengthening engagement with alumni and elevating Titan pride across academics, athletics and the broader community.
On Saturday, the Alumni Association board reconvened to focus on long-term planning and strategy. The group reviewed the association’s strategic plan, discussed priorities for the coming year and explored new ways to deepen alumni involvement in university initiatives.
Doug Stewart ’87 (B.M. music-keyboard) delivered a powerful message, highlighting the meaningful purpose of volunteer service and the vital role board members play in advancing the university. He underscored how Titan volunteers fuel student success, strengthen community, and embody the pride and spirit that define Cal State Fullerton.
Sean Walker, provost and vice president for academic affairs, also joined the board to provide an academic affairs update, highlighting student success initiatives and innovative programs. A key theme throughout the day was how alumni can continue to move Fullerton Forward through student-alumni connections, philanthropy, and participation in campus and regional events.
“Our recent board retreat reinforced the importance of thoughtful planning to engage Cal State Fullerton’s more than 350,000 alumni. As an Alumni Association, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to create meaningful ways for Titans to connect, give back and support the next generation. By setting clear priorities today, we can build an alumni community where every Titan feels valued and connected to the university’s future,” said Antonia Castro-Graham ’00, ’02 (B.A. American studies and political science, MPA public finance management), president of Cal State Fullerton Alumni Association
As the Alumni Association moves forward, the annual board retreat continues to be a key moment for bringing volunteer leaders together, sparking new ideas and keeping Titan alumni at the heart of Cal State Fullerton’s story.
