CSUF Celebrates 47 Years of Comm Week With Star-Studded Lineup, Student Showcases

Cal State Fullerton’s College of Communications will host its 47th Annual Comm Week — a four-day event designed to empower, educate and connect communications students with top professionals from across the industry. Running from April 21-24, the event will take place at the Titan Student Union and is free and open to the public.

Comm Week 2025 will feature more than 40 accomplished alumni and industry leaders offering insights through panels, presentations and networking events, all focused on a wide range of communications fields, including journalism, sports media, social media, film, fashion,and more.

Key Highlights and Events

Opening Day: Club Showcase and Meet the Deans

The week kicks off on April 21 with an exciting student mixer in the Titan Student Union Portola Pavilion from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees can enjoy free pizza, meet department deans and connect with student clubs. David Grossman, an award-winning author and leadership expert, will headline the session with insights on communication and engagement.

Featured Industry Speakers

Katie Hennessey, ESPN senior talent producer, will explore the business behind sports and entertainment, sharing her 13-year journey through Disney and ESPN. This event will take place  April 24 in the Titan Student Union Titan Theater from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Matt Prince, known for his work with KFC, Taco Bell, Disney and Chapman University, will host a fireside chat on how audience behavior shapes media and brand storytelling. This event will take place April 23 in the Titan Student Union Gilman Room from 7-9 p.m.

Brittny Mejia, Pulitzer Prize finalist and metro reporter at the Los Angeles Times, will dive into the art of investigative and narrative journalism. This event will take place April 23 in the Titan Student Union Hetebrink Room from 7-9 p.m.

During an NBC panel, Vikki Vargas, Stephanie Miranda-DeLucia and David Reese will present “From Script to Screen,” sharing behind-the-scenes insights and discussing diversity in media storytelling. This event will take place April 23 in the Titan Student Union Hetebrink Room from 2-3:30 p.m.

Cody Gion from ABC 10 News San Diego will host a session on covering breaking news with real-world newsroom examples. This event will take place April 22 in the Titan Student Union Gilman Room from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Special Events

The Latino Communications Institute 2nd Annual Media Showcase will feature student films, music videos and scripts that spotlight the Latinx experience. This event will take place April 22 in the Titan Student Union Titan Theater from 5-7 p.m.

The documentary “Getting on Base” will be screened on April 23 in the Titan Student Union Titan Theater from 7-9 p.m. The film highlights a college softball team’s journey and the broader fight for gender equity in sports under Title IX.

About Comm Week

Comm Week is organized and executed by CSUF’s Event Planning and Management students, under the leadership of Michelle Kurland, lecturer in communications, and Leah Thompson, student assistant. The event celebrates the diversity of the communications field and serves as a bridge between academia and industry.

This celebration of communications is more than just a series of lectures — it’s a vibrant space where students, professionals, and the community can come together to explore, engage, and envision the future of media and storytelling.
