On May 30, the CSUF Police Department will participate in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to support the Special Olympics. Campus community members can support the team by cheering them on as they carry the torch with the Flame of Hope throughout their route:
- North on State College Boulevard from the Mobil Gas Station at approximately 9 a.m.
- East on Nutwood Avenue
- South on Placentia Avenue to Chapman Avenue
- East on Chapman Avenue to Bradford Avenue
- End on Bradford Avenue at Orange Central Korean Church parking lot at approximately 10 a.m.

“I love participating in the torch run each year,” said Brandon Marantz, CSUF Police Department officer. “It is such a rewarding experience to be able to give back to my community on a deeper level.”
Every dollar raised by local law enforcement agencies directly supports the Special Olympics of Southern California athletes by covering the cost of transportation, uniforms, equipment and venue costs so that sports can be accessible to everyone of all abilities.
In 1981, in Wichita, Kansas, six officers raised $300 for the first torch run. Last year, the Southern California Law Enforcement Torch Run program raised $1.2 million with the help of more than 3,000 officers across nearly 1,000 miles and through more than 200 communities. Since the first torch run, more than 100,000 officers around the nation and world have raised $1 billion for the Special Olympics.
