CSUF University Archives & Special Collections Receives OC Weekly Archives

Share This:

Cal State Fullerton’s University Archives & Special Collections has acquired the complete collection of OC Weekly materials through a donation from journalist Gustavo Arellano and coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the alternative weekly’s debut.

The OC Weekly launched as a spinoff from LA Weekly in September 1995. It expanded from 58 pages in its first issue to an average of 120 pages by 2005, before ultimately ceasing publication in 2019.

This collection will serve as a resource for researchers studying alternative media, Orange County history and the evolution of local journalism in the digital age.

OC Weekly’s 30th anniversary will be celebrated with a panel featuring Arellano and other OC Weekly journalists at Alta Baja Market in Santa Ana on Oct. 11.
