Jaya Dofe, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, served as the general co-chair, alongside Mengmei Ye of IBM, for the seventh Women in Hardware and Systems Security Workshop. Held on Nov. 22 at the prestigious IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in New York, the event brought together students, researchers and industry leaders in an inclusive environment to foster collaboration and innovation in hardware and systems security.

One of the workshop’s highlights was a research presentation by Vasavi Vuppala, a student mentored by Dofe. Vuppala’s work in hardware Trojan detection was well-received, showcasing the impactful research being conducted by students. Her presentation emphasized the importance of mentorship and the role of students in advancing the field.

Attendees also had the unique opportunity to tour IBM’s cutting-edge technology facilities, including the Quantum Computer System 1 and 2, and explore advancements such as the IBM Artificial Intelligence Unit. These experiences provided participants with firsthand insights into groundbreaking technologies shaping the future of hardware and systems security.

The workshop was lauded for its welcoming atmosphere, where attendees felt included and empowered to engage in meaningful discussions. Dofe’s leadership and dedication to creating such a collaborative and enriching event underscore her commitment to advancing diversity and excellence in the field.

The WISE Workshop continues to be a pivotal platform for promoting innovation, inclusion and mentorship in hardware and systems security.
