Cal State Fullerton electrical engineering students recently participated in the 2025 ACM/IEEE Cyber-Physical Systems Week Student Design Competition.
The CSUF student teams achieved outstanding success at this prestigious international research event, which brings together global experts in cyber-physical systems and IoT through top conferences such as the International Conference on Hybrid Systems: Computation and Control; the International Conference on Cyber-Physical Systems; the ACM Conference on Embedded Networked Sensor Systems; and the Real-Time and Embedded Technology and Applications Symposium.
Notably, CSUF’s student teams are composed entirely of first-generation college students. Several students earned top honors at the research event for their innovative ideas and research practices with the mentorship of Yu Bai, professor of electrical and computer engineering.
CSUF students Michael Lanfranchi, Daniel Luna, Brian Mercado, George Rodriguez and Breyanna Tolbert and high school volunteer Kevin Huang earned second place for their project, which featured an autonomous agricultural maintenance and analysis rover.
Daniel Donelon, Marc Oliza, Alan Kernin and Alex Romero came in third place for their work on a robotic arm cocktail maker. And for their presentation on a solar panel cleaning robot, Jaime Carpio, Gustavo Martinez, Mark Strong and Jose Villacana earned an honorable mention at the event.
