Cal State Fullerton students eager to learn how to cook without breaking the bank can attend the first of Associated Students Inc.’s “Cook & Connect” series on Sept. 22, a. hands-on workshop designed to teach students how to prepare affordable, healthy meals using ingredients commonly available at the ASI Food Pantry.
Hosted by ASI and TitanWELL Cooking Healthy and Optimal Movement, “Cook & Connect” is available to all students, who can RSVP via Qualtrics.
“It’s not just learning how to cook, but it’s making new friends and connecting over food,” said Jennifer Langenwalter, TitanWELL health educator. “It’s trying out different recipes, trying out different cultural foods, and realizing that you can take just about anything and make it taste good.”
The event will also create space for students to connect with peers over food in a communal setting, to ask questions about nutrition and wellness, and learn more about ASI and TitanWELL CHOMP resources.
“You may be commuting or you may be working and going to school, so you might not have time to join a club or an organization or the things that traditionally will connect you,” Langenwalter said. “But food is another connection.”
This four-part series will take place throughout the fall semester on Oct. 22, Nov. 18 and Dec. 8.
The Dec. 8 “Cook & Connect” event will partner with CSUF’s Counseling and Psychological Services for a discussion on stress management while students make food at the Student Recreation Center pool deck to fuel up for finals.
“We are providing the tools for students to make healthy recipes at home while also fostering wellness through support and community with fellow students,” said Cristina Troung, associate director of Titan Student Union programs and ASI Food Pantry.
Workshop attendees can look forward to an afternoon of building community, learning new skills and making healthy, affordable meals on campus.
