Former Cal State Fullerton Athletics Director Neale Stoner passed away Tuesday at the age of 86.
Stoner was hired as the Titans’ fourth director of athletics in the fall of 1972, replacing John Caine who served from 1967-1972. Stoner oversaw transitioning the Fullerton Athletics Department from the College Division level to a full-fledged Division I department that would debut in 1974-75.
Stoner was credited for the hiring of two major players in Cal State Fullerton history: baseball’s Augie Garrido and basketball’s Bobby Dye. Read more in Titan Athletics.
