Over spring break, 18 kinesiology students visited Aotearoa New Zealand to better understand the deep connections between sport, society and cultural ideologies.
Students learned how to play New Zealand national sports of netball and rugby, participated in the most popular action sport of surfing, and met with Paralympics NZ, Sport NZ and University of Waikato doctoral students. They toured the New Zealand Parliament and a Maori cultural center, where they witnessed a haka, waitas (songs) and traditional stick games. Students also attended both local-level and professional rugby and soccer matches.
