Diagnosed with HIV/AIDS at the age of 26, Austin Nation faced his own mortality until the release of the life-extending drug AZT. Now 40 years old, Nation is living his best life as a drag performer and an associate professor of nursing at Cal State Fullerton. His autobiographical show, “Becoming Austin Nation — From Crack to Ph.D.: A Drag Queen’s Story,” runs from Sept. 13-15 at the Maverick Theater in Fullerton. The show was nominated by Broadway World Los Angeles for Best Cabaret/Concert/Solo Performance.
