For Cal State Fullerton’s College of Communications, some of the most meaningful partnerships begin with a Titan who never forgets where they started.

Alum Eren Cello serves as senior vice president of communications and marketing for Ontario International Airport. She continues to demonstrate what it means to turn a Titan education into meaningful impact for students, the university and the broader Southern California community.

Cello earned her bachelor’s degree in communications with a concentration in public relations in 2010. Today, she brings nearly two decades of marketing and communications experience to her role at Ontario International Airport, where she has been instrumental in the airport’s communications, marketing and rebranding efforts.

But for Cello, her connection to Cal State Fullerton is about much more than her degree. It is about giving back.

Through the support of Ontario International Airport, students in the College of Communications will have opportunities to benefit from a partnership that connects classroom learning to the professional world. Corporate partnerships like this provide students with exposure to industry leaders, real-world experiences and opportunities to see how the communication skills they are developing at CSUF translate into successful careers.

“Eren represents the very best of what we hope our Titans will become: accomplished professionals who remain connected to their university and committed to creating opportunities for the next generation,” said Jason Shepard, dean of the College of Communications. “Her leadership and the support of Ontario International Airport are invaluable to our students and to the College of Communications.”

From Titan student to industry leader

Cello’s professional journey reflects the versatility of a communications degree. Her career included work in agency, nonprofit, utility and healthcare environments before she joined Ontario International Airport in 2018. In her role, she has helped lead marketing and communications initiatives while contributing to the airport’s growth and visibility. Her work following the airport’s COVID-19 recovery campaign helped generate over $200 million in revenue for airline partners.

Her team’s work has also changed how Southern California travelers think about their hometown airport. As a result of their efforts, 56% of travelers now choose Ontario International Airport over other Los Angeles Basin airports, up from 47% in 2019. Along the way, Ontario International Airport has welcomed new service to Taiwan, Mexico, Central America and destinations across the country, giving travelers more reasons to fly close to home.

Her success is a powerful example of how a communications education can open doors across industries and provide the foundation for leadership, innovation and community impact.

For the College of Communications, having alumni like Cello engaged with students is especially meaningful. Alumni provide students with something that cannot be replicated entirely in a classroom: a direct connection to professionals who once sat where they sit today.

A partnership that goes beyond the classroom

Ontario International Airport has already demonstrated its commitment to Cal State Fullerton through its support of Celebración de CSUF: ¡Somos Titans!

In 2025, Ontario International Airport was recognized as a music sponsor of the university’s ¡Somos Titans! celebration, an event held each year in the fall that brings the community together to support student scholarships and programs. The event has raised significant support for initiatives including the Latino Communications Institute, Abrego Future Scholars and the Latinx Community Resource Center.

That investment reflects the broader role that Ontario International Airport and Cello play as partners in the Titan community.

Their support helps create connections between students and the industries, organizations and professionals that make up Southern California’s vibrant communications landscape. It also demonstrates the power of alumni engagement. When Titans succeed professionally and choose to invest back into their alma mater, their impact can extend far beyond their own careers.

Building opportunities for future Titans

The College of Communications is committed to providing students with experiences that complement their academic education and prepare them for an increasingly competitive communications industry. Partnerships with organizations such as Ontario International Airport help make those experiences possible.

Whether through student opportunities, professional connections, sponsorship or engagement with the university community, Ontario International Airport represents the kind of corporate partner that understands the value of investing in students.

And at the heart of that relationship is a Titan who knows firsthand the transformative power of a Cal State Fullerton education.

“We are incredibly proud of Eren Cello, not only for the career she has built, but for the way she continues to bring her Titan spirit back to the university,” Shepard said. “Her success is a source of pride for the College of Communications, and her commitment to students is a reminder that being a Titan does not end at graduation.”

The partnership between Ontario International Airport and Cal State Fullerton aims to open doors for the next generation of Titans.

This year, with the generous support of Ontario International Airport, the college will continue to expand two longstanding partnerships with CSUF and other universities: Stuttgart Media University in Germany and Dong-ah Institute of Media and Arts, one of Korea’s leading institutions focused on media, communications, film, broadcasting and digital arts.
