Cal State Fullerton Offers Summer Fun

Looking for a place where your children can have fun and a fulfilling summer experience? Cal State Fullerton is the one-stop place for programs in art, math, writing and sports for kids from kindergarten through 12th grade.

For those interested in learning new games and making new friends while participating in various sports activities, two summer youth programs are offered by Associated Students’ Recreation Sports. For advancing math, writing and art skills, weekly programs are offered through University Extended Education.

University Extended Education

Whether your child is interested in art, writing or getting ahead in math, algebra or geometry, Cal State Fullerton’s University Extended Education has programs to meet their needs.

Art Camp, for youth 7-14 years of age, allows participants to develop their creative spirit and personal style through exploration of drawing, painting, printmaking, 3-D design and musical theater. Now in its 20th year, the program is offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday  July 11-22 and July 25-Aug. 5. Cost for two-week camp is $480; extended day is available for an additional charge.

Weekly two-hour classes in academic subjects are offered in July.  Fees for the programs are $165. They are:

  • Early Writer’s Workshop for grades 2-3
  • Young Writer’s Workshop for grades 4-5
  • Brush Up on Your Math Skills for grades 6-9
  • Pre-Algebra Basics for 11- to 13-year-olds
  • Algebra I Problem Solving for 12- to 14-year-olds
  • Introduction to High School Geometry for those 13 to 16 years of age
  • Algebra II for those 14 to 18 years old

Associated Students Rec Sports

The annual Associated Students summer camps offers a wide range of arts and crafts, music and song, sports and team-building activities for children enrolled in kindergarten through eighth grade and counselor training for older teens. Full-day and morning-only sessions include a lunch and snacks.

The Titan Kids Camp are programs offered around weekly themes and include Friday dress-up activities. The camp is offered in nine, back-to-back, one-week sessions from June 13 through Aug. 8. The 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. program is broken down into three levels: ages 5-6, ages 7-8 and ages 9-10.

The Titan Youth Sports Camp offers morning and afternoon programs for ages 7-12. Each session lasts two weeks, beginning June 20 and continuing through Aug. 8.

Titan Camp Adventures, for ages 11-15, are offered weekly full-day programs from July 13 through Aug. 8. Weekly activities include rock climbing, recreational swimming, field sports, bowling, obstacle courses and water Games.

Older youth, 15 to 17 years of age, can take part in Counselor-in-Training (CIT) — two-week sessions offered June 13-24 and July 11-22. Those who complete the program can then volunteer as counselors in the other programs.

Fees for summer camps range from $220 per session to $315 for CIT sessions. Fees are prorated for the sessions that fall during the July 4 holiday. Extended childcare options are available for an additional fee.

A Saturday, June 11, open house will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. in the CSUF Student Recreation Center. Camp coordinators will be on hand to answer questions about the camps.

The Titan Youth Swim Lessons, certified by the American Red Cross, are designed for children six months and older. A parent-and-child session is held for the youngest of participants. Ten-day Monday through Friday sessions are offered beginning June 13, June 27, July 11 and July 25. An eight-session, Saturday-only class is offered beginning June 18 (no classes Saturday, July 2). All classes meet for 30 minutes each day. Fees are $65 for 10-day, $58 for nine-day and $52 for eight-day sessions.
