Career Center Expands Student Access to Jobs, Internships

More than 200 companies are expected to visit campus this fall to recruit Cal State Fullerton students and alumni. Internship and job fairs are just one of the many ways CSUF’s Career Center is working to bridge the gap between workforce needs and Titan talent.

The Career Center offers a variety of services year-round — such as career assessments, resume and cover letter review, job and internship events, mock interviews, graduate school preparation and more — and recently launched the Titan Takeover Job Shadow Program to give students firsthand insight into an organization’s culture, structure, operations and day-to-day activities.

“Titan Takeover provides students with experiential learning beyond the classroom and helps students explore potential careers and industries before they commit to a major or career,” said Elizabeth Zavala-Acevez, interim director for the Career Center. “It also helps employers showcase their industry and organization as a way to network with future talent.”

In the last year, the center has boosted postings on the Titan Connection jobs database by 11 percent and increased employer participation in campus recruiting events by 27 percent, according to Zavala-Acevez.

“One of our main initiatives is to continue to grow our employer engagement efforts to expand internship and full-time career opportunities for our students with regional and national organizations,” she said.

The center’s flagship event, the Internship and Career Expo, invites employers to campus each semester to meet and recruit undergraduate and graduate students from all majors. Eighty-five companies are currently registered for the Oct. 19 expo, including: Adobe, Irvine Company, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, PepsiCo, THINKTogether and Wells Fargo.

“Because of its location, diverse student population and academic offerings, CSUF is a prime recruitment destination for various organizations,” said Zavala-Acevez.
