Thirty Cal State Fullerton students in the master’s in higher education program, in partnership with the city and community of Maywood, are presenting the “Infinite Possibilities, Posibilidades Infinitas” 8th annual Maywood Education Fair this Saturday, Oct. 15.
The 9 a.m.-4 p.m. free event features activities and workshops for pre-K to 12th-grade students, parents and community members to foster the development of a college-going culture among the predominantly Latino community. With more than 1,000 attendees expected, families will learn about applying to college, careers, financial aid and more.
Assemblyman and CSUF alumnus Anthony Rendon ’82, ’94 (B.A. political science-public administration, M.A. political science) is the 12:30 p.m. luncheon keynote speaker. Rendon serves as speaker of the California State Assembly.
The CSUF students also raised nearly $22,000 for scholarships, including $15,000 from AT&T, to be awarded to Maywood and Bell college-bound high school seniors. Sponsored by CSUF’s Educational Leadership Department and the Center for Research on Educational Access and Leadership, the fair is part of a class project for students in the master’s program.
The graduate students serving as lead organizers of the event are: Victor Joseph Atiliano, Ebony M. Freeman, Jennifer Gutierrez and Julia Walker ’15 (B.A. criminal justice).
