The 12-episode serial broadcast opera “Vireo: The Spiritual Biography of a Witch’s Accuser,” by Cal State Fullerton’s Grand Central Art Center artist-in-residence Lisa Bielawa, will be unveiled in its entirety in the spring on KCET.
Developed in collaboration with KCET Artbound, the production looks into the concept of “female hysteria” over the centuries. A behind-the-scenes video of the new opera includes a look at the production of episode 9, where the title character is put in jail. The episode was filmed over the summer in Alcatraz.
Last year, the opera won an ASCAP Foundation Deems Taylor/Virgil Thomson Multimedia Award in the field of music.
