Cal State Fullerton students will participate in the two-day GrowLocalOC conference sponsored by Seedstock and the Orange County Food Access Coalition, beginning Thursday, Nov. 10 in the Titan Student Union.

The conference highlights regional sustainable farming practices, food security, and community engagement. Karen Ross, secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, is the keynote speaker.

Students who participate in Cal State Fullerton’s U-ACRE program can take part in the conference, said Sara Johnson, professor of anthropology. Johnson, who is scheduled to speak at the conference, started the private and federally funded Urban Agriculture Community-based Research Experience (U-ACRE) program in 2011. The program offers hands-on and diverse research in sustainable urban agriculture and is nationally recognized for its community engagement and preparing students to participate in a global society and the workforce.
