Serial broadcast opera “Vireo: The Spiritual Biography of a Witch’s Accuser,” an artist residency project of Cal State Fullerton’s Grand Central Art Center, is one of five honorees chosen this year for an Arts Entrepreneurship Award by Fractured Atlas.

“By embracing new technologies and distribution platforms, Vireo is a prime example of artistic innovation as a direct result of artists embracing new technological innovations,” states the nonprofit organization, which provides support services and business tools for artists.

KCET and Link TV will release all 12 episodes of “Vireo” in May, free of charge, via on-demand streaming. Each episode is between 10 and 15 minutes long.

Created expressly for release via broadcast and online media, “Vireo” was composed by Lisa Bielawa based on a libretto by Erik Ehn, and was directed by Charles Otte. The staged opera was filmed in different locations and centers on men’s interpretations of women’s behavior and female hysteria. More information is available online.
