Graduate Student Explores Value of Chambers of Commerce Today

Communications master’s student Daniel Coats, who writes a blog for Mihaylo College of Business and Economics, recently completed a communication audit of the Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce. Coats will be graduating next year.

“Decades ago, joining the local chamber of commerce was one of the premier ways of building a business’ reputation, network, funds and contacts. In today’s wired world, Yelp, Kickstarter and LinkedIn fulfill many of these needs,” Coats wrote in his May 25 blog, “Do Chambers of Commerce Matter in the 21st Century?” 

Coats conducted member surveys, interviews with staff members and researched similar oganizations in his quest to find out if chambers of commerce continue to serve a vital function in their communities. To find out what he learned, continue reading.
