Nov. 19, 2018
Colleagues characterize Berenecea J. Eanes as an inspiring leader, a champion of the work of student affairs professionals, a meritorious role model and a visionary for innovative programs and services to meet the needs of Cal State Fullerton students.
For her professional achievements and support to students, Eanes, vice president for student affairs, is this year's recipient of the Scott Goodnight Award for Outstanding Performance as a Dean/Vice President from NASPA Region VI.
NASPA: Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education recognizes the outstanding contributions of individuals, groups and institutions that are transforming higher education through their dedication and service.
"Dr. Eanes has honored us with her passion, leadership, integrity and tenacity, and I am proud to stand with many across campus who believe it is now our turn to honor her with an award that truly encapsulates everything she stands for," said CSUF President Fram Virjee, in his letter of support for the award.
The award is given to a dean or vice president who has demonstrated sustained achievement in student affairs work, innovative response in meeting students' varied and emerging needs, effectiveness in developing staff, and leadership in campus and community affairs. The award recipient also is someone who has earned the support of students, faculty members and fellow administrators on campus, and has made significant contributions to the field, according to NASPA.
“I'm deeply honored to have received the Region VI Scott Goodnight Award. While I'm grateful for this individual honor, this award is greater than one person," said Eanes, who was recognized at the recent NASPA Western Regional Conference in Sacramento.
"I sincerely thank and recognize my Student Affairs team for their tremendous commitment, professionalism and flexibility to educating Titans. This award belongs to them because we do this work together.”
Eanes, who joined Cal State Fullerton in 2012, oversees the division that supports the academic, personal and professional development of students. She has received other accolades for her work in higher education, including the California State University's 2018 Wang Family Excellence Award.
