‘Be a Lincoln!’ Readings Create Historical Learning Experience

Consul General Francisco Javier Vallaure de Acha from the Consulate of Spain in Los Angeles, faculty members and students will represent members of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade and other participants from the Spanish Civil War in a Thursday, April 11, “performative and participatory historical experience” titled “Be a Lincoln!”

Vallaure de Acha will represent writer George Orwell, who traveled to Spain in December 1936 to fight for the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War.

Joining him in representing other individuals who took part in the three-year war will be Jasamin Rostam-Kolayi, chair and associate professor of history; Chris Brown, associate professor of criminal justice; Bobbie Porter, assistant vice president of diversity, inclusion and equity; students and audience members.

The scripts were written by students from the upper-division Spanish Civil War history class taught by Aitana Guia, assistant professor of history.

The 2-4 p.m. program in Room 360 of the Pollak Library will include a presentation of period artifacts from the Cal State Fullerton Pollak Library Special Collections.
