Summer Youth Programs on Campus: From Computer Programming to Sports

Weekly programs offering art, robotics, math and writing opportunities are among Cal State Fullerton’s summer programs for youth.

New this year is the new “Ready, Set, Read!” summer reading enrichment program offered for second through fifth grade readers. The program, which helps strengthen reading skills with guided reading, writing, interactive story sharing and word games, is offerd by the university’s College of Education and the Hazel Miller Croy Reading Center.

On-campus sessions will be held July 29-Aug. 2 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. for second and third graders and 1-3 p.m. for fourth and fifth grade students. For more information, email readingcenter@fullerton.edu or call 657-278-3497.

A similar program will be offered for the community surrounding the Center for Healthy Neighborhoods in Fullerton. The session will be held June 24-28. Additional details are available by calling 714-441-3401 or emailing healthyneighborhoods@fullerton.edu.

Returning favorites are the Titan Youth Sports Camp and Learn to Swim program offered by Associated Students Inc.’s Titan Recreation, as well as art camp and academic programs offered by University Extended Education. All programs take place at the Fullerton campus.

Art Camp

Youth ages 7-14 can explore drawing, painting, musical theater and three-dimensional design in a two-week summer art camp. Classes meet from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with extended day options available for working parents. Sessions are available July 8-19 and July 22-Aug. 2. Academic Programs

Whether its RoboCircuitz! Sphero Coding Camp, the Young Writer’s Workshop or any of a wide range of math courses, students will fun while preparing for the upcoming school year during these weeklong courses (listed below). Titan Youth Sports Camp

Titan Youth Sports Camp, with half- or full-day options, as well as extended care, offered weekly from June 10 through Aug. 9, provides recreation and sport-related activities for children ages 4-12, as well as the Counselor-in-Training program for youth ages 16-18 who wish to gain resume experience and volunteer service hours.

Camp activities include bowling, rock climbing, soccer, flag football, martial arts, hockey, Zumba, volleyball, outdoor adventure, track and field, arts and crafts, movies, dress-up Fridays and more. For more information, visit Titan Recreation website or call 657-278-5548.

Learn to Swim

The Learn to Swim program, available for ages 6 months and up, promotes a safe and fun swim environment for children to develop their water skills. Classes are offered in two-week sessions (30 minutes each) and Saturday-only sessions (40 minutes each) between June 17-Aug. 10.
