Cal State Fullerton welcomes Ellen Treanor as associate vice president for strategic communications and brand management in the Division of University Advancement. Her appointment, made following a national search, is effective today.
With 25 years of experience working with multinational corporations to educational institutions and nonprofits, Treanor brings a broad spectrum of knowledge in branding, reputation building, strategic communication and crisis management.
Her career ranges from 14 years with AT&T, where she revolutionized the company’s long-term business strategy and launched its first strategic partnership in high technology (semiconductors) between Bell Labs and a high-tech startup, to almost 12 years at Southern Utah University — first as a faculty member, then as assistant vice president and head of brand strategy. Treanor has taught marketing and communications, and has served as a branding and strategic communication marketing consultant throughout the western United States.
Treanor’s efforts have resulted in awards in marketing, recruitment, video production and social media engagement.
As Cal State Fullerton’s associate vice president for strategic communications and brand management, Treanor will lead efforts in market research, strategy development, content and brand development, creative concept design and art direction. She also will manage issue and reputation management, news media relations and emergency communications.
She holds a master’s degree in professional communication from Southern Utah University, a graduate certificate in information systems from the University of California and a bachelor’s degree in the humanities from the University of South Carolina, Columbia.
