The Division of Human Development, Diversity and Inclusion offers a series of workshops for faculty, staff and administrators throughout the academic year.

Oct. 13

10-11 a.m. —“Class and Compensation Essentials – MPP only” Management personnel learn the requirements and processes for classification reviews, position descriptions, in-range progression, salary stipends and reassignments.
2-3 p.m. — “Management 101 for New Managers” New managers and supervisors learn to solve work and management issues, navigate through the political system and explore available resources.

Oct. 14

10-11 a.m. — “CCAR System” In an MPP-focused session, learn how to use the CCAR system to submit position classification review requests, in-range progressions and stipends, reassignment requests, monitor all classification & compensation action requests and more.

Oct. 15

Noon – 1 p.m. — Faculty/Author Series: “Primed to be Color-Blind: Asian American College Students, Racial Identity, Development and Color-Blind Racism” with Vijay Pendakur. Discuss this chapter from “Killing the Model Minority Stereotype: Asian American Counter-Stories and Complicity” to learn about color-blind racism and racial identity development of Asian American college freshman.
2-3:30 p.m. — “International Travel Insurance” Learn and review the online request system for Foreign Travel Liability Insurance and the various departments involved with ensuring the insurance has been bound.

Oct. 16

Noon – 1 p.m. — “Self Defense Part I”  In this first session of a two-part self-defense course, Cpl. Iris Cortes will share how to recognize red flags and what individuals can do to protect themselves. (Second session is offered Oct. 22.)
10-11:30 p.m. — “Refresher to Campus Travel Procedures” A review of employee travel policies and procedures for those who have completed “Intro to Campus Travel Procedures.” Room 319 of Langsdorf Hall.

Oct. 20

12:30-2 p.m. — “Culture Diversity Competency Series” In the second of a four-part series, Mikel Hogan, chair and professor of human services, will discuss the second skill of cultural diversity competence: reducing the six barriers to respectful interpersonal and social group interactions.
Noon-1 p.m. — “Food is Medicine”  Make more informed food choices by learning the therapeutic benefits of food/nutrients and evaluate the impact of those choices on your well-being. Room 730 of College Park

Oct. 22

Noon-1 p.m. — “Self Defense Part II” Part 2 of the self defense workshop is hands-on practice presented by Cpl. Iris Cortes. Room 264 of the Kinesiology and Health Science Building

Oct. 26

Noon- 1 p.m. — “Interviewing Techniques” Freshen up your interviewing skills and learn from HRDI Employment staff the do’s and don’ts in an interview.

Oct. 27

Noon – 1 p.m. — “Acupuncture” Discover how acupuncture is used in holistic medicine for a variety of ills, including stress. Program will include how to work with your healthcare provider to receive acupuncture treatment.

Oct. 29

9-11:30 a.m. or 1-3:30 p.m. — “CalPERS Retirement Workshop” Program for campus staff members nearing retirement. Workshop will include CalPERS retirement benefits and the retirement process.
