Carolyn Johnson, associate professor emeritus of communications, has donated $25,000 to start the University’s Journalism Endowment Fund and provide annual funding for support materials, travel, equipment and other needs in the Communications Department.
The College of Communications plans to honor Johnson for her more than $41,000 in gifts to the University with the June unveiling of the Dr. Carolyn E. Johnson Internship Office.
Johnson joined the CSUF faculty in 1972 and was one of the department’s first female faculty members. She taught writing and reporting to young journalists, was an adviser to the student chapter of Women in Communications, and served in different national WICI positions, including as national president. Named associate professor emeritus in 2006, she returned to campus for several years to teach part time. She remains active in her church and the Fullerton Sunrise Rotary.
