One of the first faculty members in the University’s Department of Economics died Nov. 6. Jack A. Pontney, professor emeritus of economics, joined the University in 1961 as the second faculty member in the department and served 20 years, helping develop the program and the curriculum for both the undergraduate and master’s degrees. He was 85.
Pontney earned his doctorate in economics from Northwestern University where he also earned his master’s degree. In addition to Cal State Fullerton, he served as a lecturer at the University of Southern California and at Los Angeles State College. In 1967, Pontney co-authored the book, “An Introduction to Modern Demand Theory.” He is survived by his wife, Joan.
