Sgt. Robert L. Baker, a 30-year veteran of the University Police Department, died in late August. He joined Cal State Fullerton as a parking officer in 1976, joined the force in 1980 and served under four police chiefs before retiring. Deeply involved in the formation of the campus emergency management plan, Baker also was a long-standing member of the commencement committee, coordinating all public safety activities for the annual two-day event, as well as coordinating security for such visiting dignitaries as the Dalai Lama.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and daughter, Emma.
A service for Baker will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Saddleback Chapel, 220 E. Main St., Tustin, 92780.
