Faculty members’ accomplishments are reflected in new books, a professional promotion and a recent theatrical performance.
Nicole Seymour, associate professor of English, comparative literature and linguistics, is the author of the just-published book, “Bad Environmentalism: Irony and Irreverence in the Ecological Age.” The University of Minnesota Press publication is a study of how queer, indigenous, and other kinds of artists and activists use humor to address environmental crises. She will discuss her book Sunday, Nov. 4, 5 p.m. at Skylight Books Los Angeles.
Another faculty member with a just published book is Toby Rider, associate professor of kinesiology, whose publication, “Defending the American Way of Life,” is part of the University of Arkansas Press Sport, Culture and Society series.
Maj. Jesus J. Cruz, commander of the CSUF Army ROTC, will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel during a 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, ceremony in the Titan Student Union Theatre.
Svetlana Efremova-Reed, professor of theatre and dance, was in a featured role in a South Coast Repertory production of “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” a family comedy that pays homage to Anton Chekhov. The production ran through Oct. 21. Besides being a prolific stage actor, Efremova’s television credits include “House of Cards” and “Blacklist.”
