JeeLoo Liu, professor and chair of Philosophy Department, envisions a future with sociable robots playing with children, caring for senior citizens, serving at restaurants, advising on legal matters and even making medical decisions.
Liu is in the second year of a prestigious Carnegie Fellowship. In 2019, she was one of 32 fellows selected to receive up to $200,000 to conduct research and write on various topics. In the past year, Liu has been doing research for a book on how to design sociable robots with self-awareness and a conscience.
