Herbert Rutemiller, professor emeritus of management science who taught quantitative methods for many years, died Sept. 28. Rutemiller joined the CSUF faculty in 1966 and was granted emeritus status in 1982. After his retirement, he remained active on campus, volunteering in the Patrons and Emeriti Book Sale Center (in the Pollak Library), participating in campus book groups, mentoring students, donating to various campus programs and participating as an active member in the CSU Emeritus and Retired Faculty Association.
In a Titan magazine story in 2014, Rutemiller talked about how students notice and are impressed with emeriti being on campus. “They get the feeling that CSUF is like a family,” he said. “Teaching is such a great profession, and you want to be back here talking to people who are still teaching.”
He was predeceased by his wife, Bessie (a librarian emeritus), who died in 2009.
