Cal State Fullerton President Mildred García, on Monday, approved changing the long-standing Department of Geography to the newer title of Department of Geography and the Environment.
The department’s faculty requested the change in April to better reflect course offerings and faculty expertise. The department first considered adding “environmental studies” in November 2015. The addition of “the environment” is aimed at attracting more students interested in today’s environmental challenges, seeking collaborative student-faculty research and pursuing environmental studies at the graduate level.
The Academic Senate approved the departmental name change on Nov. 10.
