‘The Body Keeps The Score’: April 21 Live Webinar With Trauma Expert Bessel van der Kolk

In partnership with Be Well OC, the CSUF Social Work Department will host a live webinar by the world-leading trauma expert and physician Bessel van der Kolk, author of The New York Times bestseller “The Body Keeps the Score,” on Friday, April 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Van der Kolk’s work as a researcher and clinician has revolutionized the behavioral health field’s ability to successfully treat the deep pain of trauma.

His unique insight and guidance on what truly works for trauma healing, derived from decades of research and clinical practice, inspired and equipped thousands of clinicians around the world.

The webinar is presented by the Social Work Department’s Integrated Behavioral Health Education and Leadership Program (B-HEAL), which is funded by the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training Program (BHWET).

Objectives include:

  • Examine and explain how traumatized people process information
  • Explain how trauma affects the developing mind and brain
  • Summarize the recent advances in the neurobiology of trauma
  • Describe how adverse childhood experiences affect brain development, emotion regulation and cognition

All CSUF faculty, staff, and students are invited to the webinar, and continuing education units will be provided free of charge to licensed behavioral health professionals.
