The College of Communications received approval for the department name change from Radio-TV-Film to Cinema and Television Arts.
The change, approved by the California State University Chancellor’s office in late January, is effective immediately, but students currently enrolled in the bachelor’s degree program will be offered the choice of graduating with a diploma featuring the former title or a bachelor of arts degree in cinema and television arts.
The department name change is contemporary, more accurate in describing a course of study pursued by CSUF students, and reflective of someone who wants to enter the narrative side of the cinema and television industry or pursue further studies in this field at the graduate level, said Garrett Hart, chair and professor of cinema and television arts.
“The future of our department also is enhanced by the name change, as it positions us to help our students get better placed as they start their careers and serves as a more attractive calling card when we are examined by future students, faculty and reviewers of college programs around the nation,” Hart said.
