Cal State Fullerton undergraduate student panelists Deborah Kim, Yesenia Rivera Rayo and Yahir Gonzalez will discuss their research process and digital storytelling outcomes from the Ethnofiction Through Contemporary Narratives course taught in fall 2023 by Sarah Rafael Garcia, visiting professor of creative writing for the Latinx Lab.

During the March 27, 2:30-3:30 p.m. presentation at Steven G. Mihaylo Hall, room 3230, the students will share excerpts of their creative writing and explore how they represented history in literary forms, such as immigrant testimonio, Korean mythology and Latinx sci-fi. They will collectively ponder the impact of ethnofiction and digital humanities on storytelling, how they preserve ethnic and gender narratives, and envision future possibilities through virtual timelines and digital storymaps. Collectively, they will examine the questions ethnofiction raises about BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and women’s history, and who should be responsible for telling these stories.

With support from the CSUF Undergraduate Resource Opportunity Center, the students will also present at the National Council on Undergraduate Research on April 9 at the Long Beach Convention Center.
