While completing his Master of Public Administration at Cal State Fullerton, Rudy Ruano decided to enroll in the human resources management certificate program offered through Cal State Fullerton University Extension. His goal: To align his education and long-term career goals in human resources and organizational development.
“I saw the certificate program as an opportunity to gain specialized knowledge in HR, strengthen my professional foundation, and prepare for leadership roles where people and processes intersect,” said Ruano.
Once enrolled in the program, Ruano found that balancing his school, work and life was achievable with discipline and strong time management.
“While it was a demanding season, it ultimately taught me how to effectively juggle competing priorities, which is an essential skill in any HR or leadership role,” he said. “What helped most was the program’s flexible format and the support I received from instructors who were both knowledgeable and understanding of students’ real-world obligations.”
After earning his human resources management certificate, Ruano quickly saw the positive impact on his career. He secured HR-related internships at local and federal government agencies, including the city of Los Angeles and NASA.
